Man United fans urge club to sign De Ligt after Ajax Champions League heroics

Manchester United fans want Matthijs de Ligt to join their revolution – and snub a move to Barcelona .

They think the talented Dutchman is perfect for the club, who are desperate to sign a centre-back this summer.

Rio Ferdinand agrees and says the 19-year-old – who scored Ajax’s second goal at Juventus to seal progress into the semi-finals – is very much the real deal.

Former Reds defender Ferdinand said: “De Ligt is the best young centre-half on the planet.

“He is beautiful and majestic ball-playing ability. Scored a huge goal as well there as well.

Matthijs de Ligt was outstanding – and fans say United must make a move

“The blend they’ve got with the young players and the older more experienced players – Tadic was almost given away by Southampton and is now producing miracles in the Champions League this year.

“It’s exciting times for Ajax.”

Star de Ligt is expected to follow friend Frenkie De Jong to the Nou Camp in the summer.

But United fans have urged Ed Woodward to move heaven and earth to bring the cultured teenager to Old Trafford.

One said on Twitter : “Ajax are a fun, young, attack minded team. United can do some of there players tbh. Matthias De Ligt in particular looks like the real deal.”

Another wrote: “Why aren’t United being linked with De Ligt every single day…. Literally should come in and be our captain.”

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is well aware they have a big summer of recruitment ahead.

“The Barcelona team here, that’s the level we have to aspire to get to,” Solskjaer told BT Sport after the game.

“We know we’re not there yet. We can get there but we have a lot of work to do.

“If we want to get back to our true level and traditions we know we have to get to challenge the Barcelona’s.

“I’ve got to say they were a couple of levels above over 90 minutes today and over 90 minutes at Old Trafford.”
