Luiz’s agent confirms new contract talks
Luiz has returned to the Chelsea starting line-up this season having been sidelined during previous boss Antonio Conte’s final campaign in charge.
The 31-year-old has played 21 Premier League games under Maurizio Sarri – more than double the amount he managed last term – and is hopeful of earning a new deal at Stamford Bridge.
Recent reports had suggested negotiations had hit a stumbling block due to Chelsea’s reluctance to commit to more than one-year contracts for players over 30, and the defender’s own wage demands.
However, Luiz’s representative Kia Joorabchian insists he is working with the club to ensure his client’s second spell in west London is extended.
“Contrary to some reports we are in a very amicable situation with Chelsea,” Joorabchian told The Sun .
“We are trying to work out a deal for David Luiz because he wants to stay, the manager wants him to stay and so does the club.
“I’m sure something will be worked out.”
